Video Teaching Mini Lesson

Cheap and Easy! I had a excellent time establishing a Viemo account and uploading a video on the free web based program. I tried to email the video to my email account but my Iphone said that the video was too big. So I uploaded it directly. From there I put the video onto my computer then went directly into my Viemo account and uploaded. I put a title on the video with a brief description. Its great! The only thing I do warn that it does take some time, uploading and viewing a video for the first time, so plan ahead of time that you need it.

Today when I was at Wilson High School in southwest Portland the health teacher and I got into a discussion on incorporating technology in a health classroom. I showed him my blog, and he loved it. He is now allowing me to teach a few lessons using the technology we learned in class. Thus this class turned out to be useful in such a short amount of time. Thank you Barry!

#8 Google spread sheet & class data

I had a good time re learning how to use  a spread sheet. In high school I had some experience using  the Microsoft Excel program but never with Google Spreadsheet. I love Google and I love it even more with  a the tool they called Spreadsheet. To define Goggles Spreadsheet, I would say you can save a ton of time and energy when collecting and organizing data, a great tool in analyzing numbers and to see progress. I started by setting up my own spread sheet and copying the raw data to my new sheet. From there I just followed the videos step by step and linked and embedded.

The data shown below are the scores of the students who were struggling  during the first part of the semester. I took the last 5 weeks of test scores to see if  improvement was evident.  We do see that the test average does go up in the last couple of weeks. Test 6 had a test average of 161.33 on the test while on Test 10  had a average of 191.83. The student most improved was Vincent, Test 6 he had a score of 175 compared to Test 10 he had a score of 215, giving him a difference of 40 points. While Scott was the least improved, improving only 10 points between Test 6 and Test 10.

As a result of these test scores, I would seek out the students who had minimal gain and ask them about the material. I would then figure out what other ways can I express this material in such a way that they will be able to relate to it. I would then offer some strategies as to how they can study for the material so that will will also stick with them in the long run.

Post #7 Multi-Media Project

Hello hello and welcome to my personal experience with Voicethread. With Voicethread you can present all sorts of documents, videos,  and pictures with audio to help explain concepts of what is being displayed.  While you are presenting information, the creators have came up with five different ways to comment on what I like to call the focal point of the presentation. This is a great tool in a educational setting, students can really work together and collaborate on final projects. This tool is a very reasonable for any subject matter, students can add pictures or supplemental video to help express concepts or ideas. Another great feature is that  as a teacher you can have your students have control of who can write comments and see comments. I like this product because I can see students really taking ownership in their school work with this service. Attached is a little video I made expressing somethings that are in my live. This slideshow presentation has pictures with my voice giving a brief description.

Post #6 Google Docs Group Project #2) Picasa

The purpose of this project was to get familiar with with the google application called Picassa. When getting to know Picassa, we where  asked to think about how we as future teachers can apply this service in our classroom to improve student learning.  Here is the link to the google doc assignment

After using this product I can see many potentials for using in the classroom to enhance student learning. Teachers can share what is going on in their classroom to administrators and local state officials, to demonstrate learning is happening in his or her lesson plans. Students can use photo albums and collages to advocate for a selected cause.  Students can use this program to show as evidence that they are meeting specific standards to pass a program.

I had trouble with this program. Im sure if I spent more time with it I would get the hang of it but in my defense, blogging was new to me, cloud computing was new to me, every single day in this class is a new and challenging experience. I normally dont take any pictures as compared to my friends who have hundreds of pictures of themselves on the internet, so this was a new concept for me. I had difficulty finding how to edit my pictures and still having trouble creating a collage. But I did ad a wine bottle to a picture, however Im still trying to learn how to make the collage. Personally I will make a good attempt to use this program personally in my life, because I do like how I can save my pictures to another source besides my computer.  I also really enjoy looking at other peoples pictures from across the world.

I personally contributed to the group by providing, exploring the application, providing examples of how this program can be applied to student learning, I made a web album and began to explore how to edit photos, and provided links to docs and web album. At the end was also a brief section on my reflection.

Post# 5 OTEN Conference

For the last few weeks of September I had the opportunity to attend a conference put on by the Oregon Technology in Education Network at Willamette University. The keynote speaker was Joe Morelock, Director  of Technology & Innovation for the Candy School District, and his presentation was titled Reaching All Learners. The other two showcased sessions that will be mentioned in my summary are Infusing the three R's with the four C's: Transforming schools to equip students for tomorrow's careers and communities by Willamette University's assistant professor Jennifer Roberts  and New Forms of Instruction Materials Support Common  Core State Standards by Drew Hinds of the Oregon Department of Education- Office of Educational Improvement and Innovation.

Post# 4 My Favorite Web 2.0 Tools

 #1)For this weeks post, I will be explaining not just one internet tool, but two tools that are easily accessible and free to the public.  The first to be explained is the foundation to the internet cloud computing world. To define Web 2.0 in my own words is going to be a short and sweet answer. Web 2.0 is a internet tool that allows people to collaborate and work together on any type of project, form, or document. Web 2.0  also allows people to share & view any documents publicly. A perfect example is this blog that I have started. Its a free service, I am not storing any data on my computer, and does not force me to download any software to use this product.  There are many services that use Web 2.0 above are links to these different cloud computing services. 

How can these tools inspire learning in my classroom?
Collaboration! Personally in my health and physical education classes, I can use the Web 2.0 services to have my students share what they are doing to improve their health! Students can document and share to the community what they are doing to be healthy people. Allowing encouragement to a growing population of sedentary lifestyles. In a traditional health classroom students journal what they are doing, and then the teacher is the only one who reads the journals. That methods does serve a purpose but I find it flat out boring! Lets use technology and share what we are doing in a classroom.

#2) The second part of this post is tool look at a personal internet tool that was assigned to in me in class. I took the opportunity to explore delicious. Delicious is a cloud computing tool that helps you keep track of all your favorite web sites in one spot.  The concept of this tool is that you dont have to save all your favorite sites onto your computer. All you do is just drag the link into one box then it is saved. You can access your favorite sites from any computer because of the concept of cloud computing, (web 2.0). You have the ability to make your links private or public. Another benefit is that you do not have to lose all your bookmarks if you switch to a new computer.

How can these tools inspire learning in my classroom?
Easy access! If I want my students to work on a project using may different resources or websites, its one stop for access. I can create a list or websites, and make them public to my students. Boom shocka locka!

Post#3 Assignment 1 Google Docs Project.

 The next assignment was to do a extensive review of Google Docs. By working on this assignment I was able to explore all the different benefits and options that Google Docs has to offer. I was very nervous to use this program only because I was new to Google Docs, and also new to the blog scene. However once I began to explore and use the tools provided, I caught myself saying, this program would have made my undergrad projects a whole better by saving time.

This program helps with student collaboration on project, allowing easy access to documents and real time working availability. Students can work on a project at the same time from different locations. Teachers can provide instant feedback on a project versus waiting one or two days to see the student and another day to read the material and to write feedback.

For the project I provided the tools and features, I had no clue as to what was going on, but both my partners help me out and did a great job explaining to me the process. COLLABORATION!
