Post#3 Assignment 1 Google Docs Project.

The next assignment was to do a extensive review of Google Docs. By working on this assignment I was able to explore all the different benefits and options that Google Docs has to offer. The other part of the assignment was explore the benefits of incorporating this service into my teaching life. This is the link to the assignment click here.

Review:

I was very nervous to use this program only because I was new to Google Docs, and also new to the blog scene. However once I began to explore and use the tools provided, I caught myself saying, this program would have made my undergrad projects a whole better by saving time.

This program helps with student collaboration on project, allowing easy access to documents and real time working availability. Students can work on a project at the same time from different locations. Teachers can provide instant feedback on a project versus waiting one or two days to see the student and another day to read the material and to write feedback.

For the project I provided the tools and features, I had no clue as to what was going on, but both my partners help me out and did a great job explaining to me the process. COLLABORATION!

Communication has allowed humans to co exist.  Recently through the birth of the internet we are now communicating  on a global scale, allowing humans to come together and work harder, faster, and more efficient than ever before. Internet allows more information at our fingertips than any previous resource. With the internet comes a new tool that we can use in the classroom as educators, blogging.

Blogging can provide many opportunities for learning in our classrooms, having the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas is a big advantage in community learning. Also with students collaborating and sharing ideas in their blogs, students have time to read information, self reflect, and then write as many times as they want to. Doing this allows work to get more work done faster and efficient. For a student researching information out of a book, this might be thought of as boring and motivation levels might be down, but through blogging and the internet students can be more motivated thus increasing more opportunities to work on their reading and writing skills. Teachers can use blogs to communicate with their students on assignments, and provide examples through links, saving paper and other costly expenses that normal classroom work has.

The rest of the world is moving toward getting work done at extremely fast pace. With blogging as a tool in the classroom we are teaching our students some skills necessary to compete at the global the global level.

Hello my name is Jacob Hockett and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am currently working on a masters degree in the Arts of Teaching at Willamette University. I hope to one day be teaching health and physical education in a middle or high school setting. I will be working towards a ESOL endorsement as well. As of this vary moment my dream job would be teaching in a inner city. Some places in mind are Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver,  or Boston.

I grew up in Salem, Oregon and then attended Western Oregon University. I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science. While in college, I coached baseball and football at a local high school in Salem for three years. For baseball I was the head freshman coach (2 years) & head junior varsity coach (1 year), and for football I was the varsity wide receivers coach.

Working on my fitness and eating healthy foods is a top priority in my life. I currently run and cycle to improve my cardiovascular health. I also do functional strength training to improve my muscular structure.

I recently am exploring different genres of music and learning about different musicians. I also am becoming more appreciative of art, and the amount of time and effort artist put into their work. The level of creativity of these individuals I envy. Growing up I hated reading, now I have found books that I am interested in and enjoy it.

Jacob's Perfect Day:
I wake up early in the morning and go for a run, then come home to eat a healthy breakfast. During breakfast I am drinking a cup of coffee and reading the The New York Times. After breakfast I work on homework or whatever needs to be done around the house while listening to music. After that is done, I head of to the gym to improve my muscular strength. After the trip to the gym I come home, fire up the grill and call a few of my friends to come over. While eating dinner I start the bon fire then relax the rest of the night.
